Student Alumni Grant Winner Pockets $2K

Professional Communications major Zane Smith has won a $2,000 grand prize for a presentation of his D.I.Y. Cosmetics at the recent Farmingdale Student Alumni Grant Business Plan Competition.

Smith ’18, a Business Management minor, won for his custom line that allows consumers to create their own cosmetics, body scrubs and more. The line focuses on organic and natural cosmetics, and invites customers to personalize down to the color, scent and texture.

Second place went to Business Management majorĀ  William Turano, for Lifted Roots Vertical Farms, a service that promotes indoor agriculture and hydroponic farming. Turano recently won third place at the LI Business Plan Regional Competition.

Senior Tyler Treadwell took the third spot with Zimute Media, a music-streaming service “designed to shake up the music industry,” Treadwell says. This new music platform will emphasize new artists.
