FSC’s 98th Commencement – the largest in recent memory – saw more than 900 students receive degrees, and a roster of speakers that included honorary Doctor of Science recipients Stanley Bergman, CEO of Henry Schein, Inc. and former NASA astronaut Leland Melvin; New York Senator Charles Schumer; Valedictorian Brian Muff, and President John Nader.

Gregory O’Connor has been named Vice President for Administration and Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Farmingdale State College. He comes on board June 19 with many years’ experience in SUNY, having served in four different positions with the SUNY Research Foundation and, most recently, as Director of New Ventures.

O’Connor has had an affiliation with FSC for some time, as Board Director of the Broad Hollow Bioscience Park. In his new role he will oversee the College’s Finance area and key functions including Physical Plant Operations,

Farmingdale State College – in recognition of its efforts to reduce the campus community’s carbon footprint by promoting ridesharing, use of mass transit, bicycling and other means of alternative transportation – has been named a Clean Air Champion by 511NY Rideshare. The program is sponsored by the NYS Department of Transportation.

FSC also holds an annual Car Free LI Day rally in conjunction with the agency.

Professor  Marjaneh Issapour, director of the
RESC, and  Instructional Support Specialist
(RESC) Kivman Lee, have been awarded an Innovative Instruction Technology Grant of $10,000 for their renewable energy project. IITG is awarded for projects that demonstrate, communicate and replicate innovations that pair technology and pedagogy developed across SUNY.

Substance abuse on campus is going to get a cure, thanks to a $125,000  grant (renewable for five years) from the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.

The award, announced by Assistant Dean of
Students Frank Rampello, will fund an ambitious program that focuses on 18 to 24 year-olds and launches July 1. It includes these components:
