FSC’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) was honored recently with a Certificate of Excellence by the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery for its outstanding work in helping get small businesses devastated by Super Storm Sandy and Hurricane Irene back on their feet.

The SBDC’s years-long effort produced these results:

  • Assisted 1,212 small businesses
  • 668 clients received more than $43 million in funding
  • 4,056 jobs saved and 130 jobs created

“Thanks to our dedicated staff, I am extremely proud of the results we had in assisting small businesses to access more than $43 million in local, state and federal disaster funds,” said FSC Regional Director Erica Chase.

The meeting was attended by members of the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery and staff from SBDC’s in Albany, Stony Brook University, and Rockland Community College. President Nader welcomed the group, noting that many businesses in the communities devastated by Sandy and other weather emergencies would be history now if not for the work of their local SBDC.  He also remarked on the recent Vision Long Island 2016 Smart Growth Summit, at which several business owners testified about the life-saving work done by the SBDC.

SBDC’s state-wide network provides expert management and technical assistance to start-up and existing small businesses across the state. SBDC is administered by SUNY and funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the State of New York and host campuses.
